How to Clean Sunbrella® Cushions

With the right care, Sunbrella® fabrics will maintain their luxurious look and soft feel for many years. A full cleaning routine doesn’t take long, and regular upkeep ensures your cushions stay fresh and inviting.

Time needed: Approximately 30–45 minutes
What you’ll need:

  • Soft-bristled brush

  • Lukewarm water

  • Mild dish soap

  • Spray bottle or sponge

  • Clean water for rinsing

Step 1: Remove Surface Dirt
Begin by brushing off loose dirt, dust, and debris using a soft-bristled brush. This step is essential, as it prevents particles from embedding deeper into the fabric during cleaning. It’s a good habit to do this regularly, even when you’re not performing a full wash.

Step 2: Wash with Mild Soap Solution
Mix lukewarm water with a small amount of mild dish soap in a bucket. Pour the mixture into a spray bottle or apply it directly with a sponge. Cover the cushions evenly with the soapy water and use the soft brush to gently scrub the fabric. Work in the direction of the weave to protect the fibers and avoid rough scrubbing. Allow the solution to sit for several minutes, so it has time to break down dirt and stains.

Step 3: Rinse and Air Dry
Rinse the cushions thoroughly with clean water, making sure no soap residue remains—leftover soap can attract new dirt. Once rinsed, let the cushions air dry naturally in a shaded, ventilated area. Avoid artificial heat or dryers, as they may affect the fabric’s durability and protective qualities.

Tip: Thanks to built-in protective layers added during production, Sunbrella® does not require any additional protective sprays or coatings for normal use.
